Work is progressing well across Brightwells Yard, and construction of almost all of the buildings has now started. This includes work to build new homes and commercial premises, as well as the new M&S Simply Food and Reel Cinema.
The basement excavation for the new multi-story car park is well underway as well as the basement at M&S with the sheet pile temporary works installed next to South Street car park.
Two tower cranes have now been erected on-site and will be used to lift and lower the large and heavy materials needed for the buildings.
At the Marlborough Head, hoarding and scaffolding is now in place and work is underway after nesting birds caused a small delay. The traditional look of the building is being protected, with the front and side facades to be retained. The roof is being removed to be surveyed and will be preserved where possible, while the inside of the building will later be reconfigured to create new commercial premises.
Storm water drainage works in Brightwell Road were completed in July, with the lane closure on East Street now removed and the road fully open.
New utilities will be coming to Brightwells Yard over the next six months to provide the new scheme with all the power and services it needs. In the meantime, overpumping works have been taking place within the site as part of the sewer upgrade.
