It has been a busy month for this September edition of your Brightwells Yard update. A new site office is now in place, allowing more of the team working on the project to have a place to work on-site. The overpumping works which were part of the sewer upgrade have been successfully carried out and the equipment has now been removed from the site.
A third tower crane has been erected on-site to support construction of M&S Simply Food, as well as the residential blocks that will sit above the store. Steel reinforcements continue to be built for the walls, ready for concreting in the next couple of weeks.
At the former Marlborough Head, the inside of the building has now been completely stripped out and all the internal floors have been successfully removed, allowing for works on the foundations within its existing basement to start immediately.
Demolition is now finished on the old Gostrey Centre, paving the way for construction to begin too. The outer walls of Reel Cinema, the apartments and multi-storey car park are continuing to be formed and the building’s ground floor slab has been cast.
The commercial units at the top of the new public square continue to be built, with the first floor columns being cast while building work on the second floor is underway. Work to create part of the commercial parade of buildings entering the site from East Street is progressing well as the casting of the columns continues along the first floor.
Finally, excavation for the foundations of the main residential blocks near the River Wey is underway with the basement starting to take shape.
